The Barbour County Health Department’s Threat Preparedness program is designed to protect our community by preparing for a variety of potential emergencies, including natural disasters, biological and chemical threats, pandemics, and terrorist attacks. We emphasize community involvement in all aspects of preparedness and response, ensuring that residents, families, and local businesses are informed and equipped to respond effectively in times of crisis.
Being prepared starts at home. We provide resources and training to help families create emergency kits, develop communication plans, and practice essential survival skills. Our goal is to empower residents to handle emergencies confidently and support one another.
Prepared businesses mean a safer community. We work with local businesses to establish emergency response plans that address employee safety, data protection, and continuity of operations. Together, we build resilience so businesses can recover quickly and continue serving the community during and after a crisis.
Ensuring rapid medical response. In the event of a widespread health threat, such as a pandemic or bioterrorism event, our team is prepared to coordinate the distribution of vaccines, medications, and other essential treatments across the county. We prioritize efficient and equitable access to protect the health of all residents.
Monitoring health threats in real time. We continuously track health data and potential risks, enabling us to detect unusual disease patterns early. Through active surveillance, we can initiate timely responses to prevent the spread of illness and contain threats to public health.
Join our emergency response team. Our Medical Volunteer Registry allows licensed healthcare professionals and community members to support the health department in a crisis. Registered volunteers may assist with mass vaccination clinics, emergency medical care, and other vital services.
Being ready for large-scale outbreaks. With extensive plans in place for pandemic response, we focus on containment strategies, medical resource management, and public education. Our goal is to minimize impact on the community through proactive measures and coordinated action.
